Slavery was legal throughout the colonies for over two centuries. Southern plantation owners relied upon the slave trade to supply a constant work force for their growing economies. How was life different for a slave living in the northern colonies? Where did they live? What skills were they able to provide for northern slave owners? Why do you think it took so long for the practice of slavery to be outlawed?
